Disaster Recovery in 30 Minutes —
at 3–5× Less Cost Than a Second Data Centre
Konkat IT Division provides mission-critical technology services to nearly 30 companies within a major Greek business conglomerate — spanning maritime vessels, aviation, refineries, retail chains, automotive dealerships, construction, and hospitality. With operations running 24/7 across multiple regions and industries, even minutes of downtime could halt global business systems.
Yet Konkat had a single centralised data centre and no disaster recovery solution. Basic on-premises backups existed, but confidence in their effectiveness was low. Regulatory pressure added urgency: the EU NIS 2 directive now mandates DR capabilities for critical infrastructure sectors including maritime and aviation — sectors Konkat serves directly.
Building a traditional second data centre 100 miles away was evaluated and quickly ruled out. "In the first year alone, it would have cost three to five times as much as using a cloud solution," said Taxiarhis Georgiou, IT Director at Konkat — and that excludes ongoing staff travel, hardware replacement, and facility management costs.
Konkat ran proofs of concept on both AWS and a competing cloud provider. The final decision was purely technical: "We realised that the cloud provider that could meet our requirements is AWS." AWS recommended LCM Go Cloud as the delivery partner.
LCM Go Cloud began with an optimisation and licensing assessment across all 150 virtual machines. They then designed a hybrid DR architecture combining pilot light and warm standby strategies — keeping critical databases live on Amazon EC2 at all times, with dependent applications able to start within minutes. AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery protects 50 production servers and 28 TB of storage via Amazon EBS, delivering an RTO of 30–60 minutes and an RPO of seconds to 5 minutes.
Beyond recovery, the solution layered in full observability and governance: Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Security Hub, Amazon GuardDuty, Amazon Inspector, AWS Config, and Amazon QuickSight for cost and security visualisation. Automated change detection prevents configuration drift between on-premises and DR environments. Throughout the 6-month implementation, knowledge transfer was treated as critical as the technology itself — ensuring Konkat's team could operate and evolve the platform independently.
I'm sleeping better knowing that we have the disaster recovery solution that LCM Go Cloud helped us implement. If something happens, it will be there.
LCM Go Cloud built a hybrid DR platform combining recovery, observability, security, and governance — purpose-engineered to protect 30 companies across 7 industries, 24 hours a day.
